Drew Brees (thumb) reportedly sidelined for Saints until Week 10
New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees is expected to undergo thumb surgery that will sideline him for approximately 6 weeks, reports Adam Schefter of ESPN.
The Saints have a bye in Week 9, so that timeline sets Brees up for a return in Week 10 against the Atlanta Falcons. If the team opts to put him on injured reserve, Brees would be forced to miss six weeks of practice and eight games. Teddy Bridgewater, who struggled on Sunday after taking over under center, is the likely starter for Week 3 versus the Seattle Seahwks and beyond. It's a significant downgrade for the entire offense.
Brees has completed 72.9 percent of his passes for 408 yards (8.5 yards per attempt) with 2 touchdowns and 2 interceptions through two games.
