Raptors reportedly land Kawhi Leonard from Spurs in exchange for DeMar DeRozan
The Toronto Raptors have reached an agreement in principle to acquire guard/forward Kawhi Leonard from the San Antonio Spurs in exchange for a package that includes guard/forward DeMar DeRozan, reports Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.
According to Woj, the trade is set to be finalized later on Wednesday and more players are involved on both sides. Leonard is set to become a free agent next summer and there are concerns about his troublesome quad, but even with the risk, this is a huge acquisition for a Raptors franchise that has repeatedly failed to get over the hump in the postseason. Kawhi turned 27 in June. On the other side of things, DeRozan could be even more active on offense in San Antonio after posting a 29.2 usage rate with the Raptors last season.
Kawhi only played 210 minutes last year, bu in the 2016-17 season he averaged a career-high 25.5 points per game on a 54.1 effective field goal percentage while adding 5.8 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 1.8 steals, and 0.7 blocks per game.
