Rudy Gay signs with Spurs on two-year deal

Free agent forward Rudy Gay, formerly of the Sacramento Kings, has agreed to a two-year, $17 million-plus deal with the San Antonio Spurs, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.com.

What It Means:

The second year of the deal includes a player option. Gay was willing to take a pay cut to join a contender, as he opted out of a $14.3 million option with the Kings, which was more than he'll earn per season in San Antonio. Gay, who turns 31 in August, remains questionable to start the season as he continues to work his way back from an Achilles injury in January that ended his season. Either way, Gay loses a ton of fantasy value with the Spurs, where he'll likely see minutes as a stretch four off the bench.

Prior to the season-ending injury, Gay averaged 18.7 points, 6.3 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 1.5 steals, 0.9 blocks, and 1.4 3-pointers per game for the Kings. He earned a -0.5 nERD in 30 contests.
