Boston eyeing Bulls' Jimmy Butler, Pacers' Paul George

The Boston Celtics have minimal interest in New York Knicks forward Carmelo Anthony because they are still pursuing Chicago Bulls guard/forward Jimmy Butler and Indiana Pacers forward Paul George, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical.

What It Means:

With the NBA trade deadline approaching on February 23, the Celtics continue their attempts of "persuading" the Pacers and Bulls to engage in trade talks. This also seems to coincide with the Chicago Tribune's K.C. Johnson, who reported late last month that Chicago is expected to "rekindle" trade talks with Boston after the two sides came close to a deal during the draft last summer. Considering the Bulls' more pressing need for a rebuild and Boston's stockpile of young assets and draft picks, a deal for Butler seems more likely than one getting done with Indiana for George.

Butler currently ranks sixth in the NBA with an 11.2 nERD this season and George is tied for 97th with a 1.0 nERD. The Celtics are eighth in numberFire's NBA Team Power Rankings, while the Pacers check in at 17th and the Bulls are right behind in 18th.
