Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Marcus Morris to play less for Pistons

Detroit Pistons head coach Stan Van Gundy said he would like to reduce the workload of shooting guard Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and forward Marcus Morris this season.

What It Means:

"You’d like to get Marcus and KCP down a little bit, but they’re both capable of handling the minutes," Van Gundy explained. "You’re going to do whatever gives you a chance to win, but I think we’ve got enough depth. Hopefully, if we get the improvement from people that we ought to, get them to more reasonable minutes." Caldwell-Pope averaged 36.7 minutes per game last season (fourth-most in the NBA), so even if he drops below 34 next year, he should remain a reliable source of points, threes and steals. Expect the extra action to go to the likes of Stanley Johnson and Reggie Bullock.

Caldwell-Pope put up career-highs with averages of 14.5 points, 3.7 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.4 steals last season. His .521 true shooting percentage was also the best of his three-year career. Morris played 35.7 minutes per game last year, averaging 14.1 points, 5.1 rebounds and 2.5 assists, all of which represented. career-highs.
