Knicks fire head coach Derek Fisher
The New York Knicks have fired head coach Derek Fisher, sources told ESPN's Ramona Shelburne.
So much for a slow news day on the Monday after the Super Bowl. Phil Jackson's hand-picked selection for head coach lasted less than one and a half seasons, and the countdown will now be on to see how long Jackson sticks around in New York's front office. The Knicks are fading out of the postseason race fast, Carmelo Anthony continues to be hindered by his surgically-repaired knee and there is no clear direction for a franchise which sorely needs one. With Fisher's dismissal, Kurt Rambis is expected to be the interim coach.
The Knicks rank 22nd in the league, according to numberFire's Team Power Rankings. Our models currently give them just a 2.6 percent chance of making the playoffs while projecting them to finish with a record of 36-46.
