5 Daily Fantasy Baseball Value Plays for 4/22/19
Steve Pearce draws a scary matchup tonight against the red-hot Matt Boyd. Is the platoon advantage and a low salary enough to put him in play?

Josh Reddick, OF, Houston Astros

Price: $2,700

The Houston Astros are always dangerous, ranking second in the majors in wRC+ to open the season, and they're showing a strong 5.13-run implied total tonight against righty Jake Odorizzi and the Minnesota Twins.

Odorizzi's 4.55 skill-interactive ERA (SIERA) in 2018 was a slight improvement from 2017's 4.90 but was still a pretty weak mark. And while he's really upped his strikeout rate to start 2019 (30.4%), he's still only managed a 4.43 SIERA, thanks in part to an egregious 14.5% walk rate. He's also allowing a 50.0% fly-ball rate, which is up slightly from 47.3% and 48.8% over the last two years.

Josh Reddick carries some standalone value against righties, posting a .345 wOBA and .156 ISO in the split since the start of the 2016 season, but as appealing as that is, he also gives you cheap exposure (with the platoon advantage) to the Astros' strong implied total tonight. A high-scoring offense around him boosts the potential for runs and RBI.
