3 Under-the-Radar MLB FanDuel Plays for 5/31/18
Christian Villanueva and the Padres have some sneaky upside against Marlins left-hander Wei-Yin Chen. Who else might fly under the radar on Thursday's main slate?

Jack Flaherty, P, St. Louis Cardinals

FanDuel Price: $7,700

With big names like Clayton Kershaw, Aaron Nola, Lance McCullers, and Jose Quintana taking the mound tonight, it's likely a guy like Jack Flaherty will go by the wayside in his matchup against the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Pirates are getting a 3.99 implied team total, which probably isn't low enough to draw heavy attention to the St. Louis Cardinals' hurler.

But Flaherty has shown some intriguing upside at times through five starts, including a 13-strikeout performance against the Philadelphia Phillies that led to robust 69 FanDuel points. In all, he's posted a solid 3.48 SIERA, 27.7% strikeout rate, and 8.0% walk rate, which we can certainly get on board with at less than $8,000. The Pirates are a team that suppresses strikeouts against righties (19.3% strikeout rate), but they also aren't the scariest group (.316 wOBA).

With Kershaw coming off an injury and no true slam dunk pitching spots tonight, it can't hurt to take a chance on paying down with Flaherty and stocking up on a pricey offense like the New York Yankees or Houston Astros.
