Raheem Mostert, Tevin Coleman expected to lead 49ers' backfield

San Francisco 49ers running backs Raheem Mostert and Tevin Coleman are expected to split most of the backfield work next season, writes Eric Branch of the San Francisco Chronicle.

What It Means:

This was echoed by Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area. Mostert and Coleman tied for the team lead last season with 137 rush attempts each, but Matt Breida's trade to the Miami Dolphins opens up 123 carries in the 49ers' backfield. Jerick McKinnon is set up for a third-down role. Jeff Wilson and undrafted free agents JaMycal Hasty and Salvon Ahmed fill out the rest of the roster.

Mostert averaged 10.6 FanDuel points (RB30) and Coleman averaged 8.9 FanDuel points (RB43) per game last season. Mostert also added 0.14 Rushing Net Expected Points per play, most in the NFL among 45 backs with 100-plus carries. Meanwhile, Coleman took away 0.07 Rushing NEP per play, finishing 37th in that same group.
