10 Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Targets Heading Into Week 4

As the fantasy season begins to stabilize, Week 4 still sees plenty of waiver wire opportunity, including a marquee pickup at the top.

Here are some of the best additions you can make to your squads based on everything we know so far. (I'll stick to players rostered on 60% of Yahoo teams or fewer and also list some other viable pickups who may be available in shallower leagues or relevant only in deeper leagues).

Quarterbacks

Justin Fields, Chicago Bears

Roster Percentage: 57%

Even with an uninspiring starting debut, Justin Fields will continue to be on this list until he cracks the roster percentage threshold.

Fields offered true dual-threat potential as a prospect and a sample of five quarters isn't enough to diminish that. Hitting on a prospect like Fields is how you win your fantasy league, and that's a gamble worth taking.

Not to mention, Fields is likely to be dropped in many leagues yet he has a soft matchup against the Detroit Lions next week, who are allowing the ninth-most (21.7) fantasy points per game to quarterbacks.

Teddy Bridgewater, Denver Broncos

Roster Percentage: 29%

Teddy Bridgewater is having a tremendous start to the season with 0.37 Passing Net Expected Points (NEP) per drop back.

A slightly more challenging schedule for the Denver Broncos may actually be a boon for Bridgewater's fantasy appeal, as it could call for more passing attempts. His 20+ fantasy points in each of the first two weeks is an encouraging sign for a potential streaming option.

Trey Lance, San Francisco 49ers

Roster Percentage: 32%

This is partially a waiver add recommendation and partially a begin monitoring the situation recommendation. Trey Lance is arguably the best scrambler to enter the league since Lamar Jackson, and with the talent of the San Francisco 49ers, Lance should be a difference-making quarterback once he enters the starting lineup.

Others to Consider:
Sam Darnold (21% at Dallas)

Running Backs

Chuba Hubbard, Carolina Panthers

Roster Percentage: 25%

With Christian McCaffrey likely out for a few weeks, Chuba Hubbard should be the top waiver priority this week. Not counting McCaffrey's share, Hubbard was responsible for 11 of the 16 running back carries and 5 of the 6 running back targets. For a waiver pickup, that's about as close as it gets to being a bellcow.

Zack Moss, Buffalo Bills

Roster Percentage: 54%

Often, players nearing the 60% threshold are already rostered in more active leagues and thus, less useful to the types of people who would seek out a waiver wire article (aka the people reading this.) With Zack Moss, the reverse is likely true. In active leagues, he was most likely dropped, whereas inactive leagues likely held him despite his healthy scratch in Week 1.

After leading the Buffalo Bills in both carries and targets among running backs, Moss is a priority add. The Bills looking like one of the league's best teams only adds to his appeal.

Royce Freeman, Carolina Panthers

Roster Percentage: 1%

The Carolina Panthers seem to believe in giving their main running back a high work share. While Hubbard is the heavy favorite, it's worth asking what about Royce Freeman? Freeman has a terrific blend of size and speed, and once received 50 targets in a season, proving his passing game utility.

Freeman's worth a look if you can't get Hubbard.

Latavius Murray, Baltimore Ravens

Roster Percentage: 58%

On a lesser team, this backfield is a messy enough situation that it could be ignored. The Baltimore Ravens, however, are too strong a team and feature too strong a rushing attack to ignore.

Latavius Murray seems to be slowly seizing the lead back role and thus is worth a speculative pickup.

Others to Consider:
Michael Carter (56%), Kenneth Gainwell (35%)

Wide Receivers

Cole Beasley, Buffalo Bills

Roster Percentage: 53%

Cole Beasley (30), is just a step behind Stefon Diggs (32) for the most targets on the Bills this season.

With 30 targets in three games, Beasley has to be mentioned as a solid waiver wire addition this week considering his role in one of the league's best offenses.

Marquez Callaway, New Orleans Saints

Roster Percentage: 37%

Marquez Callaway finally showed a bit more life against the New England Patriots, scoring his first touchdown on the season. Even if that score was accompanied by just 41 yards and 5 targets, it's also notable that those 5 targets were good for a 25% target share and came against J.C. Jackson.

Higher scoring games and easier matchups await Callaway in the future.

Henry Ruggs, Las Vegas Raiders

Roster Percentage: 50%

A run-back from last week as Henry Ruggs was once again a major factor in the passing game for the Las Vegas Raiders, this time tying Darren Waller in targets with seven.

Ruggs has really made a believer out of this former skeptic and his 1.16 Reception NEP really speaks to the efficiency boost. Reception NEP refers to a player's cumulative NEP recorded on their targets. The Tyreek Hill comparisons were always lofty, but something along the lines of a DeSean Jackson type of career is looking more and more possible.

Others to Consider:
Quintez Cephus (29%), Emmanuel Sanders (25%), Jalen Reagor (24%), Tim Patrick (22%)

Tight Ends

Dawson Knox, Buffalo Bills

Roster Percentage: 9%

Without much to choose from at the position, you're left to look for "just happen to find the end zone" candidates. Dawson Knox seems as reasonable a candidate as any to do that.

He hasn't really received enough targets to be a truly consistent fantasy tight end, but he's got a couple of factors working in his favor: Buffalo's overall offensive efficacy and their passing volume. In a game where they never trailed, Buffalo still opted to throw 43 times.

Knox also meets the size and speed specifications we expect of productive fantasy tight ends.

Others to Consider:
Jared Cook (50%)
