College Basketball: Historical Comparisons for This Season's Top-10 Teams
The nation's top squads resemble teams from past seasons, which may tell us how this year's elite will fare down the road

9. Gonzaga Bulldogs

nERD: 16.42

Historical Comp: 2010 West Virginia Mountaineers, 31-7, 2 seed, lost in Final Four

Last year's runner-up has a top-10 offense and ranks inside the top 20 in defense, earning them a comparison to the 2010 West Virginia team that was led to the Final Four by senior guard Da'Sean Butler.

Gonzaga is a well balanced offensive team, with six players averaging between 9.7 and 14.5 points. This adds up to the fifth-highest-scoring offense in the nation at 89.9 points per game. While that West Virginia team did not blow the doors off anyone -- averaging only 72 points per game -- the efficiency of the two offenses is what really matters.

Gonzaga is looking to win at least a share of the West Coast Conference regular season title for the sixth consecutive year and make another deep run in the NCAA Tournament.
