The Arizona Diamondbacks "have been in contact" with the Baltimore Orioles about a possible trade for third baseman Manny Machado, Jon Morosi of MLB Network reports.
"This is viewed as due diligence" for the time being, according to Morosi, but Arizona better get serious fast, with the likely market developing for the young superstar. Machado has a .310/.377/.567 triple-slash line with 18 home runs and 53 RBI in 302 plate appearances this season. With Baltimore coming into Tuesday at a paltry 20-50 and Machado scheduled to become a free agent this winter, it's all but certain he'll be traded somewhere this year.
Our models project Machado to hit .292 with 21 home runs, 51 runs, 57 RBI, and 6 stolen bases in 366 more plate appearances in 2018.
