Tampa Bay Rays starting pitcher Nathan Eovaldi will undergo arthroscopic surgery to remove loose bodies from his right elbow.
Eovaldi missed all of 2017 after undergoing a second career Tommy John surgery and now he'll miss a significant part of 2018 as well. The 28-year-old right-hander impressed during the spring and was slotted to open the year as the third option in the Rays' four-man rotation. Jake Faria appears to be the favorite to fill the void.
Eovaldi owns a career 4.21 ERA, 1.38 WHIP, and 17.0 strikeout percentage over 739 innings while going 38-46 across 134 games (127 starts).
