New York Mets pitcher Jacob deGrom (back) is slated to start against the St. Louis Cardinals in the second game of the season on March 31.
If not for a minor back injury that he's been dealing with this spring, deGrom likely would have received the call for Opening Day, but Noah Syndergaard will toe the rubber instead. The 29-year-old right-hander recorded a 3.53 ERA last season while setting a pair of career-highs with 239 strikeouts over 201 1/3 innings.
numberFire's models project deGrom to record a 3.63 ERA, 1.22 WHIP, and 28.4 strikeout percentage while going 14-10 across 201 innings this season.
