Pirates' Joe Musgrove experiencing shoulder discomfort

Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher Joe Musgrove has discomfort in his right throwing shoulder, reports Bill Brink of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

What It Means:

Musgrove felt the discomfort on Sunday, causing him to miss a live batting practice session. It's not a great start for Musgrove, who was acquired in the Gerrit Cole deal with the Houston Astros. Since, Musgrove said he isn't concerned and that it was just a precautionary rest. It's just camp, so the Pirates should continue to be cautious for the time being. Musgrove's expected to play a part in the team's five-man rotation in 2018.

Last season with Houston, Musgrove pitched 109 1/3 innings over 24 games (15 starts). He finished the year 7-8 with a 4.77 ERA and 4.38 FIP.
