Chicago Cubs catcher Willson Contreras was pulled from Wednesday's loss to the San Francisco Giants due to a pulled right hamstring.
Contreras pulled his hamstring while running out a grounder in the eighth inning. He is scheduled for an MRI on Thursday, but manager Joe Maddon said after the game that the injury will likely require a stint on the disabled list. Alex Avila figures to see a boost in playing time for as long as Contreras is on the shelf.
Over 102 games this season, Contreras is slashing .274/.342/.519 with a .861 OPS while turning in 21 home runs and 70 RBI across 378 plate appearances.
