The New York Yankees optioned starting pitcher Jordan Montgomery to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
The Yankees want to use a five-man rotation, so Montgomery is on the outside looking in following the acquisition of Sonny Gray from the Oakland Athletics. The 24-year-old right-hander owns a 7-6 record over 21 starts in his rookie season.
Montgomery turned in a 4.05 ERA, 1.24 WHIP, and 22.9 strikeout percentage across 115 2/3 innings this year.
