Detroit Tigers reliever Shane Greene will be the team's new closer following the trade of Justin Wilson to the Chicago Cubs, manager Brad Ausmus announced Monday.
Greene hasn't given up a run in 13 July appearances and he should be able to hold onto the job for the rest of the season. The 28-year-old right-hander owns a 2.74 ERA, 1.22 WHIP, and 25.6 strikeout percentage (K%) across 46 innings (50 appearances) this season.
numberFire's models project Greene to record a 3.28 ERA, 1.26 WHIP, and 23.3 K% over 24 2/3 innings for the remainder of his 2017 campaign.
