Colorado Rockies pitcher Kyle Freeland is set to return to the starting rotation on Sunday against the Pittsburgh Pirates, according to MLB.com's Thomas Harding.
Freeland has been pitching from the bullpen in an extended assignment aimed at easing his workload. However, the team will be forced to put him back into a starting role sooner than later with Tyler Chatwood on the 10-day DL with a calf strain.
In his very brief stint in the bullpen, Freeland appeared just once. In that appearance, he pitched 3 scoreless innings of no-hit ball, with 4 strikeouts. Over the rest of the year, our numbers like Freeland to go 5-5 with a 4.23 ERA and 46 strikeouts across 81 innings.
