The Boston Red Sox have optioned first baseman Sam Travis to Triple-A Pawtucket.
Travis' contract was purchased in May, and he was previously sent down to and recalled from Pawtucket in June. Since then, he's been a spot starter at first primarily versus left-handed pitching. Mitch Moreland figures to get more starts as Boston brought up pitcher Hector Velazquez in a corresponding roster move.
In his first 6 games, Travis hit to a .479 wOBA and 2 doubles in 19 plate appearances. In the 11 games since, he has just a .260 wOBA with 3 doubles in 31 plate appearances.
