St. Louis Cardinals infielder Alex Mejia will get the start today at second base as the Cardinals meet the Arizona Diamondbacks on Thursday afternoon.
As the corresponding move to Aledmys Diaz' demotion to AAA-Memphis, the club called up Mejia on Wednesday. His presence will send Greg Garcia to the Cards bench. As for Mejia, he'll bat seventh in the lineup and make his first professional plate appearance against lefty Patrick Corbin.
In 293 plate appearances between AA and AAA this season, Mejia has accounted for 3 home runs and 27 RBI. He'll look to reap the benefits of a team implied total of 4.79 runs today.
