Sam Dyson S. Dyson

Rangers to designate Sam Dyson for assignment

Texas Rangers reliever Sam Dyson will be designated for assignment, according to Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports.

What It Means:

Rosenthal says the Rangers would like to trade Dyson and that at least one team has expressed interest. The 29-year-old reliever excelled in the closer role last season (2.43 ERA, 38 saves), but the wheels have fallen off in 2017, leading to Matt Bush taking over ninth-inning duties for Texas.

Dyson recorded a brutal 10.80 ERA across 16 2/3 innings (17 appearances) this season with a 2.58 WHIP, 7.7 percent strikeout rate, and 13.2 percent walk rate. He's 0-for-4 on save chances and has been charged with six losses.
