Houston Astros reliever Ken Giles secured his 12th save of the season as part of a combined shutout Monday in a 1-0 defeat of the Detroit Tigers.
Giles did his part by fanning two of the three batters he faced in the top of the ninth inning. He's now 12-for-13 in save opportunities this season for an Astros team that currently stands atop the American League West.
The 26-year-old right-hander owns a 3.44 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 31.1 strikeout percentage in 18 1/3 innings this season.
