The San Diego Padres acquired outfielder Matt Szczur from the Chicago Cubs in exchange for pitcher Justin Hancock.
Szczur was designated for assignment on Saturday by Chicago after getting very limited playing time in a crowded Cubs outfield. The 27-year-old could find more consistent at-bats in San Diego as a platoon hitter against lefties.
Szczur owns a career batting average of .243 with a .665 OPS and eight home runs in 369 plate appearances over four seasons.
