New York Mets pitcher Steven Matz (elbow) is expected to begin a throwing program on Wednesday.
Matz has been dealing with a strained flexor tendon in his left elbow, and he has been on the shelf for three weeks since receiving a PRP injection. He is still a long way from returning to the rotation.
Matz is coming off of a 2016 season that saw him post a 3.51 SIERA, 23.6 percent strikeout rate, 5.7 percent walk rate and 1.21 WHIP in 132.1 innings pitched.
