Astros shut down Collin McHugh (elbow) for six weeks

Houston Astros starting pitcher Collin McHugh has been shut down for the next six weeks after being diagnosed with a posterior impingement of his right elbow.

What It Means:

McHugh underwent an MRI and his UCL is intact, so right now the team is playing it safe with their hurler dealing with dead arm this spring. He left a rehab start early on Thursday with biceps/elbow tightness and it looks like he won't be big-league ready until at least June. Mike Fiers will continue to occupy McHugh's spot in Houston's rotation

Before the news of the shutdown, our models projected McHugh for a 3.86 ERA and 1.28 WHIP with 167 strikeouts over 186.4 innings pitched remaining in 2017.
