New York Mets starting pitcher Steven Matz said Monday that he's dealing with a flexor tendon strain.
Matz received a platelet-rich plasma injection for his elbow and he'll be shut down for the next three weeks. The 25-year-old southpaw was officially placed on the disabled list Sunday, but there's no clear timetable for his return.
Prior to the diagnosis, numberFire's metrics projected Matz to go 10-8 across 162 1/3 innings this season while recording a 3.49 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 22.1 strikeout percentage.
