San Fransico Giants relief pitcher Mark Melancon blew a save on Opening Day against the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Melancon entered the game in the ninth with the Giants leading 5-4. He quickly got the first two outs but gave up four consecutive hits and two runs to lose his San Francisco debut. The 32-year-old closer was signed to a hefty$63 million dollar deal to solve the Giants bullpen woes but is not off to a great start.
Our models project Melancon for 34 saves with a 2.56 ERA, 0.98 WHIP, and 66 strikeouts in 70 1/3 innings pitched this season.
