The Kansas City Royals optioned outfielder Peter O'Brien to Triple-A Omaha on Monday.
O'Brien was a long shot to make the Royals opening day roster, even after cranking seven home runs in 51 spring at-bats. The one-time Arizona Diamondback prospect will be the Royals first call up if any of their outfielders go down or if veteran first baseman/designated hitter Brandon Moss struggles.
O'Brien has hit .176 with 6 home runs and 12 RBI's in 67 career plate appearances.
