Oakland Athletics pitcher Sonny Gray (lat) has been cleared to resume a throwing program.
Gray was initially supposed to be shut down for three weeks but has gotten the green-light for baseball activities after just two. He is scheduled to start with long toss from 75 feet and depending on how he feels could be making his season debut in mid-April instead of May. Gray will start the season on the disabled list either way.
Gray will be looking to bounce back from a horrific 2016 campaign where he went 5-11 with a 5.69 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 18.2 strikeout percentage -- all career-worsts.
