Boston Red Sox starting pitcher David Price (elbow) will begin the season on the disabled list, manager John Farrell acknowledged Tuesday.
Price is still limited to light catch work on flat ground, so this doesn't come as any surprise. He still has some work to do before he's ready to pitch in games, but the hope is that he'll be able to avoid any setbacks and return to the mound sooner than many anticipate. With Price on the shelf, Drew Pomeranz, Eduardo Rodriguez and Steven Wright are all expected to open the season in Boston's rotation.
Without yet accounting for the missed time, numberFire's algorithms project Price to go 14-10 while recording a 3.41 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 24.7 strikeout percentage across 214 innings in 2017. He's the 12th-ranked fantasy pitcher overall.
