St. Louis Cardinals infielder Matt Carpenter (back) is at least a week away from returning to Grapefruit League action.
Carpenter hasn't played in a week due to back soreness and will sit out at least one more. The injury also forced the third baseman to pull out of the World Baseball Classic. He is still not in any danger of missing regular season games, as long as he doesn't suffer any setbacks.
Carpenter is coming off an All-Star season where he batted .271 with 21 HR, 68 RBI, 81 runs scored, and a .885 OPS.
