The Miami Marlins have signed starting pitcher Edinson Volquez to a two-year, $22 million contract.
Volquez is officially a Marlin and it's a nice backloaded contract for the Marlins that will only cost them $9 million in 2017 and $13 million in 2018. Volquez struggled with the Royals last season but he could see a turnaround on a National League team in a pitcher-friendly park.
In 189 1/3 innings in 2016, Volquez posted a lofty 5.37 ERA and 4.58 xFIP for the Royals, both of which were career worst marks.
