Boston Red Sox infielder/outfielder Brock Holt will start at third base and bat second in Game 1 of the American League Divisional Series against the Cleveland Indians on Thursday.
Holt batted seventh for the majority of the season, but Boston manager John Farrell doesn't want to have too many right-handers at the top of his lineup. Considering the alternative options, it's a questionable move, especially when you factor in Holt's .188 batting average (33 plate appearances) from the two-spot this year.
For the season, Holt slashed .255/.322/.383 in 324 plate appearances. The Red Sox have the second-best odds of winning the World Series, with an 18.5 percent chance, according to numberFire's metrics.
