Washington Nationals starting pitcher Max Scherzer earned his 20th win on Sunday despite giving up five runs in five frames in a 10-7 victory over the Miami Marlins.
Scherzer surrendered nine hits and a pair of homers in an uncharacteristically flawed outing for the 32-year-old right-hander. He did record seven strikeouts, giving him a career-high and major-league leading 284. Scherzer compensated for his effort on the mound with a pair of hits from the plate, driving in four runs in the victory.
Scherzer wraps up his 2016 campaign with a 20-7 record and superb 2.96 ERA across 228 1/3 innings.
