St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Adam Wainwright tallied eight strikeouts while giving up two earned runs over six innings, scoring a no-decision as the Cardinals beat the Pittsburgh Pirates on Sunday.
The Cardinals finished the regular season with a series sweep of the Pirates, but they failed to overtake the San Francisco Giants for the second Wild Card spot in the National League, bringing their season to an end.
Wainwright had an uncharacteristically rough season, posting a 4.62 ERA (his worst since his rookie year) and a 4.31 SIERA (his worst since 2007) over 33 starts.
