San Francisco Giants pitcher Johnny Cueto (groin) has been cleared to start Thursday at home against the Colorado Rockies.
Cueto endured a mild groin strain during a road start against the Los Angeles Dodgers on September 20. He was given the go-ahead to pitch Thursday by Giants manager Bruce Bochy after making it through a bullpen session Tuesday without any setbacks. With San Francisco in pursuit of a Wild Card spot, Cueto will be in a big spot Thursday night.
It has been another solid year for Cueto, with a 2.79 ERA and 3.65 SIERA through 31 starts (212 2/3 innings). His 22.0 percent strikeout rate and 5.2 percent walk rate are both better than his career averages.
