Mets' Steven Matz (elbow, shoulder) season is over

New York Mets starting pitcher Steven Matz (elbow, shoulder) is done for the year.

What It Means:

Matz' shoulder fortunately won't require surgery, but the bone spur in his left elbow will force him to go under the knife. Expect him to be good to for the start of spring training next February.

Matz turned in a strong second season in the bigs, recording a 3.51 SIERA, 23.6 percent strikeout rate and 5.7 percent walk rate through 22 starts (132 1/3 innings) -- all of which are improvements from his rookie numbers in 2015.
