Los Angeles Angels starting pitcher Garrett Richards (elbow) is slated to face live hitters on Wednesday.
Richards is scheduled to make his first appearance in the instructional league next Monday, barring any setbacks. The 28-year-old right-hander was diagnosed with a torn right ulnar collateral ligament back in May, but he decided to undergo stem cell treatments in hopes of foregoing Tommy John surgery.
Richards holds a career-best 2.34 ERA and 23.0 strikeout percentage in just 34 2/3 innings this season. He's 1-3 across six starts.
