Houston Astros closer Ken Giles blew a save in epic fashion Friday against the Los Angeles Angels, giving up six runs on three hits and three walks.
After giving up a leadoff single, Giles gave up a two-run bomb to Yunel Escobar, followed by two walks and an RBI single after that to CJ Cron. In a game where the Astros may have lost Carlos Correa as well, this one was tough to swallow. They are now 2.5 games back in the wildcard with eight to go.
GIles' ERA jumped to 4.31 after his poor showing Friday. He owns a 35.3 strikeout rate this season, with a 2.61 xFIP and 2.42 SIERA.
