The San Diego Padres did not list Nelson Cruz in their lineup for Sunday's game against the New York Yankees.
Cruz will take a seat Sunday while Matt Carpenter joins the lineup to bat fifth against right-hander Gerritt Cole.
Cruz is batting .245 with a .670 OPS as one half of the Padres' veteran platoon at designated hitter.
