St. Louis Cardinals third baseman Matt Carpenter is getting the day off Wednesday.
Ruben Tejada is starting at third base and batting eighth for St. Louis in the afternoon game against Chicago Cubs' right-hander Jake Arrieta. Kolten Wong will fill in at leadoff.
Carpenter is slashing .250/.378/.506. His ISO of .256 is on pace for a career high while his BABIP of .271 is on pace for a career low. He has nine home runs and 32 RBI's in 204 plate appearances for the year.
