Pittsburgh Pirates infielder Kevin Newman (undisclosed) is not in the starting lineup for Thursday's series opener against right-hander Carlos Carrasco and the New York Mets.
Newman made an early exit from Wednesday's game for an undisclosed injury and it looks like he will remain out for at least one contest. Rodolfo Castro will move to second base in place of Newman while Ben Gamel works as the Pirates' designated hitter and cleanup batter. Michael Chavis will hit seventh after cleaning up last game.
