Pittsburgh Pirates infielder Kevin Newman is not in the starting lineup for Thursday afternoon's series finale against right-hander Merrill Kelly and the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Newman went 3-for-5 with a stolen base and a run on Wednesday, but he's grabbing a seat for the day game after a night game. Oneil Cruz will replace Newman at shortstop and hit cleanup while Ben Gamel moves into the leadoff and designated hitter roles.
Cruz has a $3,300 salary on Thursday and numberFire’s models project him for 8.9 FanDuel points. Gamel has a $2,400 salary and is projected for 12.9 FanDuel points, which makes him our second-best point-per-dollar value among batters. Per our MLB Heat Map, the Pirates’ implied total (3.33) is third-lowest out of 16 active teams today.
