Boston Red Sox pitcher Joe Kelly (shoulder) is expected to make a rehab start Friday with Triple-A Pawtucket.
Kelly will make at least two starts in the minors before the Red Sox consider bringing him back. The right-hander owns a brutal 9.35 ERA and 2.77 WHIP in three outings this season for Boston and landed on the disabled list April 19 with a shoulder impingement.
Kelly wasn't able to make it more than five frames in any of his three starts this season, pitching just 8 2/3 combined innings. He did show his strikeout potential by fanning 11 batters, but he also walked 10. Our models currently project Kelly to record a 5.17 ERA and a 17.2 strikeout percentage across 68 innings in 2016.
