Chicago Cubs starting pitcher Jon Lester struck out 10 batters while yielding just one run over seven innings in Friday's 6-1 win over the Atlanta Braves.
Lester ran into trouble in his final frame, loading the bases with nobody out with the help of a bunt that he misplayed. However, he got back-to-back strikeouts and then a groundout to escape trouble. Although he wasn't credited with a victory, it was another terrific showing for the veteran lefty.
Lester has recorded 10 strikeouts in two of his last three starts and will take a 1.83 ERA and 33/7 K/BB ratio into next week's showdown with the Pirates in Pittsburgh. In five starts this season, he remains 2-1.
