St. Louis Cardinals infielder Matt Carpenter will start on Tuesday against right-hander Sandy Alcantara and the Miami Marlins.
Carpenter will play second base and bat fifth in his first start of the season. Tommy Edman will shift to right field in place of Austin Dean. Carpenter went just 2-for-37 (.054) with 13 strikeouts during spring training.
