Pittsburgh Pirates relief pitcher Keone Kela has not worked out on the field yet, according to The Athletic's Stephen J. Nesbitt.
A reason hasn't been given for Kela's absence, with Pirates manager Derek Shelton failing to provide an explanation. The 27-year-old threw 29.2 innings for the Pirates last season, recording 33 strikeouts, 11 walks, and a 2.12 ERA. He is expected to operate as Pittsburgh's closer this season.
numberFire's models project Gonzales for a 3.41 ERA and 1.05 WHIP with 27 strikeouts, 8 walks, and 9 saves over 21 2/3 innings this season.
