Max Scherzer (back) feels ready to return for Nationals

Washington Nationals starting pitcher Max Scherzer (back) says he feels ready to return to the majors.

What It Means:

Scherzer completed a throwing session in the outfield Wednesday morning after pitching two-plus innings in a simulated game on Tuesday. Barring any setbacks, he may be able to avoid a minor league rehab stint, though the veteran right-hander conceded he would be on a pitch count. Scherzer has made just one major league start since July 6 due to upper back problems.

Scherzer is 9-5 in 20 starts this season. He owns a 2.41 ERA and 0.99 WHIP with 189 strikeouts and 25 walks over 134 1/3 innings.
