4 Daily Fantasy Baseball Stacks for 5/12/16
The Baltimore Orioles may be the chalk for tonight's slate, but that comes with good reason and stupid run potential.

Stacking can be a controversial topic in many daily fantasy sports, but you can count baseball as a glaring exception. Here, it's universal.

Using multiple players on the same team on a given day presents you with the opportunity to double dip. If one of your players hits an RBI double, there's a good chance he drove in another one of your guys. When you get the points for both the run and the RBI, you'll be climbing the leaderboards fast.

Each day here on numberFire, we'll go through four offenses ripe for the stacking. They could have a great matchup, be in a great park, or just have a lot of quality sticks in the lineup, but these are the offenses primed for big days that you may want a piece of.

Premium members can use our new stacking feature to customize their stacks within their optimal lineups for the day, choosing the team you want to stack and how many players you want to include. You can also check out our hitting heat map, which provides an illustration of which offenses have the best combination of matchup and potency.

Now, let's get to the stacks. Here are the teams you should be targeting in daily fantasy baseball today.

Baltimore Orioles

This is the chalkiest of all chalky chalk options, but at least it's not without good reason. It's the league's top offense against right-handed pitchers squaring off with a pitcher with the third-worst SIERA among pitchers who have thrown at least 30 innings. It might be best to fade it in tournaments, but on paper, this baby is scrumptious.

The Detroit Tigers seem hesitant to remove Mike Pelfrey from the rotation despite an absolutely abysmal start to the season. That aforementioned SIERA is all the way up at 5.43, and he has as many walks as strikeouts. The one downside is that Pelfrey has an above-average ground-ball rate, but even that has fallen from where it was last year. It's easy to see why that's a scary proposition against a team is riding a streak like this one.

If you want to stack the Orioles in a tournament, you're going to need to get a little creative. That may warrant considering a wrap-around stack including guys like Pedro Alvarez and Jonathan Schoop. They will save you a ton of salary, Schoop has only a 13.2% soft-hit rate against righties this year, and Alvarez has cut his strikeouts over the past few weeks to 16.2%. It's not something you should do often as batting order is tremendously important, but when a matchup is this obvious, some differentiation is necessary in tournaments.
